The Feed & Keep Fit (FKF) Project

FKF community outreach

We are pleased to share this update on the “Feed & Keep Fit” (FKF) project, a three-year initiative launched by the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) Health Services with support from PCUSA. The project addresses critical health, nutrition, and wellness challenges faced by women, particularly in the Fako Division, through an integrated approach combining healthcare services, nutritional education, agricultural empowerment, and physical fitness programs.

Project Sites: Buea, Tiko, and Limbe (Fako Division, South West Region)

Target Beneficiaries: 3,600 direct beneficiaries (70% women), and indirectly improve the quality of life for 10,000 women with special focus on rural women, displaced women, and vulnerable populations.

🎯 Project Goal:
Enhance the holistic wellness of women in Buea, Tiko, and Limbe through integrated health, nutrition, and fitness interventions.

🔍 Key Objectives:

  • Raise awareness on nutrition, dietetics, and healthy feeding practices.
  • Empower women in agricultural production of nutritious foods.
  • Promote physical activity and self-monitoring for disease prevention.
  • Strengthen facility-based and community-level nutrition services.

📌 Core Activities:

  • Establish Women-led Nutrition Units (NIPI) in PCC health facilities.
  • Train 50 “Fit Woman Volunteers” for community mobilization.
  • Conduct food processing workshops and agricultural sensitization.
  • Launch digital health monitoring tools and fitness events.
  • Deliver targeted outreach and facility-based nutritional care.

📈 Expected Outcomes:

  • Improved health indicators among women (e.g., reduced NCD risk).
  • Increased access to and consumption of nutritious foods.
  • Strengthened community engagement and facility performance.
  • Enhanced self-esteem and economic empowerment for women.

🛠 Implementation & Oversight:
The project is managed by a Core Implementation Team (CIT) with a strong gender-inclusive leadership structure. Monitoring and evaluation will be led by a dedicated MEAL Officer, with quarterly reviews and annual evaluations.

Infrastructure Established:

  • Nutrition Improvement and Production Initiative (NIPI) units being established in PCC health facilities
  • Women’s Health Program (WHP) launched to address holistic women’s health needs
  • 50 Fit Woman Volunteers (FWVs) being recruited and trained as community health promoters

Activities Carried out:

  • Needs assessment and baseline surveys in targeted communities
  • Facility-based nutrition counseling and meal planning services
  • Community outreaches for nutrition education and awareness
  • Agricultural training workshops in collaboration with Presdiet
  • Outdoor health and fitness events scheduled for key observance days
